Working Art Nouveau Kerosene Oil Caravan Lamp With Shade Cast Iron Wall Bracket
The whole lamp has an oxydised copper finish, wearing thin in places showing brass on the lamp and cast iron on the bracket. Projecting just over 12 inches from the wall and standing 20 inches overall height.

The cast iron bracket swivel back has a prominent Rd number (500735) for 1908, and there is another , 316605, for 1898 inside the lamp basket. The burner is Marked with the HS, Hugo Schneider initials on the black ceramic winder, and is marked 15''' Polaire on the burner base.

As you can see the lamp works well and gives a powerful light from a compact round flame. The'opal and flint' shade shines a good light downwards. Compact lamp (good for heat too) would suit a compact space, small room, or a caravan , shepherds hut or narrowboat. If used in a vehicle it would need to have the lamp taken out of the cup, glassware removed and stowed safely and the bracket restrained (tied to wall) to prevent damage when in motion. If left complete when van or boat moved it would get broken!

Bracket incorporates lugs in the design which prevent the lamp being folded right to the wall, this is to prevent the shade bing smashed against the wall. Bracket is incredibly finely cast with attractive art nouvea backplate and fine deep detail to the bracket and basket. Wick winds up and down nicely, and the burner is complete with its original flame spreader disc which often drop out and get lost.

Powerful light from a very compact lamp! Shade will pass over the bulge in the chimney as it should (otherwise you have to fit the chimney inside the shade after lighting)..

This allows easy lighting and getting the flame right without the shade in the way, then put the shade on. Glassware is without damage, no cracks chips or burst bubbles. The cast iron bracket is complete and has no cracks, rusted bits or broken off bits.

The copper-over brass font is free from dents and holds fuel, no leaks, as mentioned there is some rubbing to the original finish. If used in a caravan or boat need to be aware of heat output from the chimney. Superb late victorian working oil lamp, compact and decorative! Collect in person, cash and carry, welcome...
