QUALITY VICTORIAN CAST OIL LAMP BASE, 19thC EGYPTIAN REVIVAL, WINGED SPHINX

STUNNING QUALITY HEAVY CAST METAL AND CERAMIC OIL LAMP BASE This truly fabulous example stands 22.5cm tall with a diameter at its base of 20.2cm. The screw thread fitter at the top of the base has an internal diameter of 20mm. The design is strongly influenced by the Victorians fascination with Egypt.

The column is supported by three figures each in the form of a winged Sphinx. There is a brass ring surrounding the cast metal base and this sits on top of a stepped highly glazed black stoneware base. Overall in very good condition, please see condition report. The line that can be seen on the column in the photographs is in the casting and was present at manufacture, it is not a groove but a flat line in the decoration.
