Overall height 19½" (49.5cm) tall, base diameter approximately 7½" (19cm). This is one of the most stunning lamp bases. Fabulous detail to the base decorated with the heads of adults and children within laurel wreath cartouches interspersed with panels of a single rose. The conrinthian column a superb display of acanthus leaves to the base, lengths of beading reaching up to more acanthus leaves, finished finally with a frill of acanthus leaves. Seated proudly on top of the extremely ornate base is a stunning, understated cut glass double tiered font which has fitted to it the coveted Messengers Dupluex No 2 burner fitting.
The burner has the original and working'raiser leaver' which enables the wicks to be lit without having to remove the chimney. The lamp was made by Samuel S Messenger & Sons. The base weighs approximately 4.195 Kilos (remember the font is filled which will be emptied making it slightly lighter, not by much). There are two things to note about this lamp base, the winders are extremely'tight' and very difficult to turn.
There is a tiny fleabite to the black base, clearly shown in the photographs. Otherwise this lamp base is a superb piece. The shop will have some beautiful cranberry glass listed shortly, including an epurn, beautiful frilled cranberry wrythern glass vases and some bristol green and cranberry stemmed glasses. _gsrx_vers_526 GS 6.6.6 (526).
