This is a beautiful antique oil lamp of messengers patent with two separate burners and an attractive bankers green glass shade. The twin burner adjustment knobs bare the branding of Veritas Lamp Works who made the lamp with a messenger patent dualex burner. This makes this a very early lamp in the company's long history.
It is in the key style of burner, allowing the glass chimney to rise above the flame to adjust the light level. The burner arrangement is in two parts and sits atop a large brass oil tank which curves down into the decorated black base. This itself consists of a further two parts. This base is also made of brass with a black paint. On top of the burner fits a standard size glass chimney and a beautiful glass lampshade. The shade is newer than the lamp itself and has a strong resemblance to those found on bankers lights. The lamp bears the marks of its age, and features a few light dents. The patina it has developed however is very attractive, varying across the oil tank and up into the burners. If this is not what you are looking for, a good polish will restore the brass shine. The lamp has been burned regularly and the wicks changed several times, which has kept the burner clean and fully operational. Many other lamps of this age have gummed mechanisms from years of no use. This is a beautiful and unique statement piece which will give a wonderful light to any space.
