Heavy 19th C Burnished Cast Metal Oil Lamp Base Urn Shape With Cherub Decoration
HEAVY 19TH C BURNISHED CAST METAL OIL LAMP BASE URN SHAPE WITH CHERUB DECORATION. SUPERB LATE 19TH CENTURY CAST METAL OIL LAMP BASE. This very decorative oil lamp base i believe dates to the last quarter of the 19th century. The oil lamp base stands approximately 24.7cm high with a base diameter at its widest point of 19cm. The lamp as a whole stands 52.5cm tall to the top of the chimney. I believe the whole base is made from cast metal but has been'bronzed' and burnished. The base is extremely decorative with an Art Nouveau pattern in light relief, this rises up to the urn body which has a handle to each side featuring a stylised leopard.
The main body is heavily cast with cherubs playing musical instruments as the theme for the decoration. The top of the urn lifts off to show the glass font which is in good condition. This in turn rises up to the neck where there is a polished brass screwfit collar which supports the burner. The collar has a makers label, F. Sale, 28 Oxford St, Manufactured Abroad.
The kosmos burner has an integral shade carrier which supports a white vesta shade. The burner is finished off with a kosmos chimney. Condition is good commensurate with age and use.
