Antique Victorian original iron, copper and brass oil lamp stand, from the 1890s. Elegant family heirloom in very good condition. The telescopic stand is about 5 foot high when collapsed and extends to about 7 foot; it sits solidly on its tripod with no wobble and is housed snugly when collapsed. The main body is blackened ironwork, with a decorative brass tap-type screw for the telescopic extension, with copper plating. There is a decorative rosette fitting at the base of the scope.
Would suit an antqiue collector looking for a period stand for an oil lamp, or could be converted by a designer into an elegant Nouveau electric light. The stand has sat in storage unused for several decades and has only been given a wipe down and dusted. We've avoided cleaning the brass/copper fittings to avoid removing the lovely patina on the copper (see photos).
But these could be cleaned sensitively to bring out more of a glow, and the ironwork could be blackened (though neither is strictly necessary).
