Antique Victorian Oil Lamp Painted Milk Glass + Globe & Decorative Metal Base

This charming Victorian oil lamp would probably once have graced the parlour or dining room of a middle-class family a century or so ago when domestic gas lighting was still the preserve of the very rich, and electric lighting was an exciting new invention which would not reach most homes for another half century. It has a brass neck, gallery and base with an eye-catching, milk glass reservoir painted with flowers in between. It has a lovely, weighty metal base with a pierced design.

There is a double wick which presently looks like it needs either trimming or replacing if you wished to use the lamp for its original purpose rather than for ornamental display - although we have not tested it ourselves. The fitted globe and glass chimney may well be a modern replacements.

This would make a really eye-catching addition to a contemporary or period property, as well as being part of the interior design scheme for a period hotel, guest house or restaurant. The lamp is in excellent condition with the usual minor wear on the metal body and glass reservoir which you'd expect on a genuine antique item around 100 years old.
