Gorgeous late Victorian stone and spelter Kosmos Brenner oil lamp. Splendid Kosmos Brenner oil lamp with glass chimney.
The green glass font has a ribbed design, with the minute bubbles and undulations common to Victorian glass. The foot and undermount are of spelter, decorated with shells and cartouches to each corner. The column is a mottled orange and brown stone - possibly marble or soapstone. The wick raiser knob reads "Kosmos Brenner", probably dating this lamp to around 1900. The base of the foot is impressed with "211". The chimney may be a later replacement, but it is of the period - thick, hand-blown glass from the early 20th century. As shown, the font unscrews from the pedestal.
I've not had the lamp filled nor lit, but everything appears to be in working order. The lamp is in fine condition and the wick raiser knob works well. The brass, glass, stone and spelter are all in splendid form. The only issues I can make out are a couple of nicks to the corners and cartouches on the spelter base. Other than that, just a lovely piece as ready for use now as it was over 100 years ago. Lamp is 61cm tall to the top of the chimney, and 43cm tall to the top of the burner. Font diameter is approximately 15cm, and diameter of the foot is 14cm.
