Antique Victorian Hanging Library Oil Lamp Red White Blue Glass Tulip Shade Font

This is an original antique Victorian brass hanging library lamp frame with milk glass oil font and shade and clear glass chimney and prisms. The shade and font are both hand painted blue with red, yellow, and green tulips on the front and back. The frame and font are both original, but I believe the shade was added later and painted to match the font because the paint used is not identical. The burner screwed into the top of the font was also added later as it is an "Eagle" with electric socket in the middle (the wick knob is the switch for the socket).

The cord has been cut from the socket though, so it is no longer working. This could easily be converted back to oil by screwing an oil burner onto the top, or a new cord could be added to make it electric.

The entire lamp is in excellent condition; the glass shade and font are free of cracks, chips, and other major damage, but the paint on the shade shows some wear (scuffs, scratches, a somewhat spotty worn appearance to the blue). All metal pieces are excellent; the entire frame is sturdy and solid and nothing is cracked or broken. The original finish is intact and has a darkened, aged patina.

More prisms could be added to the shade frame; there are just enough for a prisms included to hang one from every other hole. Inside the ceiling canopy, the chains are held together with some wire. The pull down mechanism is missing and there is no mounting bracket inside the canopy but it might be possible to add one using the holes in the ceiling canopy.

There is about a foot of extra chain on each side to make the lamp hang lower if desired. The lamp measures 17 1/2" across the arms, the shade is 14" in diameter, and the bottom of the lamp currently hangs 28 1/2 down from the ceiling (additional chain could be let out though).
