Antique Hinks Oil Lamp HUGE Brass Oil Lamp Hinks No. 2 Burner Snake Handle Urn. Stunning Hinks oil lamp standing an impressive 77cm tall overall.
The lamp is in the form of a classical urn upon a square pedestal. The pedestal has a chased and embossed grapevine pattern to all four sides and the "urn" above is profusely decorated with a chased and embossed grapevine that winds its way around the whole vase and has a band of stylised leaves and berries to both the top and bottom. Each urn handle is in the form of a two headed serpent emanating from an Acanthus leaf base and the drop in font is decorated with a stylised leaf and berry pattern that echoes the bands on the urn and is fully marked to the collar "Hinks & Sons Patent". The font is fitted with a Hinks No. 2 Duplex rise and fall burner which has a working snuffer lever with original dropper, working single stem wick winders and rise and fall mechanism that turns smoothly to raise the gallery upwards for ease of lighting.The burner is also marked between the wicks "Hinks & Sons Patent". New wick has been fitted and the burner is complete with a flat bulge chimney.
An original brass gallery supports a large apricot tinted and quilted shade with frilled rim of unknown age. A truly magnificent oil lamp and a sublime example of Hinks manufacturing at its best.
