Antique Art Nouveau Oil Lamp Hinks & Son with Etched Shade Duplex Rise & Fall

Antique Art Nouveau Oil Lamp Hinks & Son with Etched Shade Duplex Twin Burner. Superb late Victorian oil lamp with heavy Art Nouveau organic influence with original'James Hinks & Sons' loaded highly raised ornate brass base that has'2037' on the base and is shown in the original Hinks catalogue. Complete with heavy cut faceted glass font. The burner is a Duplex rise and fall twin burner including extinguisher with twin thumb wheels embossed "SALE 129 Oxford st LONDON"and the other embossed "Duplex patent burner".

Sale of Oxford street was more than likely a retailer of the time. The shade is a nice stencil etched frosted shade. Originally mouth blown glass, blown into a mold and then etched with acid. Condition is overall very good. The lamp is fully working. One of the thumb wheels has a small chip (photo 5), nothing major, but noted. The faceted cut glass font is free from any chips/cracks etc.. With a couple of very minute fleabites and has the usual bubble as done at time of manufacture. The base is free from damage though has wear and tear commensurate with age and use. The shade has some minor odd flea bites on gallery fitting and a small bruise/frite on edge of frill that appears to have been polished out as shown in photos 11 & 12 and photo 3 (at 11 o'clock on shade)but nothing that detracts from this superb shade and is hardly noticable even when lit. Measures 20.5tall to top of chimney. Font/reservoir measures a 6diameter at widest point. Base measures 7.5 diameter.

An absolute superb addition to any collection, or great gift to a special person, would make a lovely wedding/silver anniversary gift? Will display superbly in any period, contemporary setting. Has wear and tear, marks, stains, odd little dink etc commensurate with age and over 110 years of use.. Weighs 3.294 kilos unwrapped.
