19th c. Orchid Banquet Lamp Oil / Kerosene Converted Antique Victorian
This is a GORGEOUS Victorian banquet lamp. Converted to electric and lights top and bottom simultaneously; not separately. This lamp is beautifully hand-painted front and back with colorful orchids and leaves against a green and white background. Lamp measures 25 1/2" tall x 10" wide. The shade has original brass heat ring.
The wick adjuster says SUCCESS. The photo of the complete lamp lit up (3rd photo) doesn't show the coloring properly, which is why I added the 4th and 5th photos. That's how they look when the lamp is turned on. Condition: The shade has a few tiny specks of black and a 1/8 teardrop-shaped surface nick near the top of the shade.
It does not go all the way through the glass. It also has a 1 1/4 line (see photos) located in the green part of the bottom. Some chipping to the fitter, but of course you don't see that when the shade is in place.
The font has had its well removed to accommodate the wiring and has been glued in place, which is not unusual with these conversions. There is a small dimple and some glue residue along one edge of the top of the font where it meets the font holder. The finish to the metal shows some wear, and the wiring should be checked by a professional as there is still some old wiring attached. I have taken all of this into consideration when setting the price. It is still an amazing banquet lamp.
