KEROSENE OIL LAMP GLOBES SHADES. These globes/shades are in excellent original condition with no chips cracks or scuffing. The rims of the fitters do have the usual fleabites whilst the top rims are immaculate. There are the odd inclusions in the glass which is a characteristic of hand blown/worked pieces of this era.
Please be aware that "pair" in Victorian terms does not mean identical. It means close to or nearly the same. This results from the anomalies in their manufacture. The fact that they are hand crafted always leads to this scenario and in my opinion adds to their charm. They are very close in size although shade no.
1 is slightly wider at the ruffle and slightly taller. The cranberry graduation starts lower on this shade which means that it has a pinker hue lower down the shade. Variation in colour is common and with these shades it is unlikely to be noticeable/obvious if they are not sitting side by side.
I have played with the colour in the photo showing the pair to emphasize this variation. The etching is intricate and indicative of early to mid Victorian work. The combination of elements (internal ribbing, etching, graduated colour and shape) have come together to create a beautiful example of Victorian glass oil lamp globes/shades. Their size makes the ideal for peg and/or piano lamps. 155 mm 6.0(widest point/ruffle).
65mm 2.55 Internal bottom rim. 70mm 2.75 external bottom rim. Please view the photos carefully as they form a major part of the description. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
