AN ANTIQUE VICTORIAN "SAMUEL MESSENGER" OIL LAMP. THIS STRIKING ANTIQUE VICTORIAN OIL LAMP STANDS ON THREE PAW FEET WITH A SUPER CERAMIC DOULTON BODY WITH FIXED FONT WHICH HAS A BRASS BAYONET FITTING COLLAR WHICH IS STAMPED "MESSENGERS PATENT". Samuel S Messenger & Sons.

Founded before 1835 in Gloucester Place, Alston Street, Birmingham, moved to 19&20 Broad Street before 1888, making chandeliers, candelabra, lamps and gas fittings, exhibitor at 1851 Great Exhibition and others. The name occurs in the 1810s as Messenger and Phipson of Broad Street, Birmingham, manufacturers of'plated' goods. Ceased trading in the early 1930s.

THE BURNER IS A TWIN 1" WICK WITH BLACK THUMB WHEELS MARKED "HINKS PATENT DUPLEX. BASE DIA - 8 (20CM).

FINISHED WITH AN ORIGINAL FINE ACID ETCHED GLOBE SHADE (IN SUPER CONDITION). (INCLUDING AN ORIGINAL CRYSTAL GLASS FIREPROOF CHIMNEY). THIS OIL LAMP IS IN EXCELLENT, LIGHTLY CLEANED, ANTIQUE CONDITION AND IN FULL WORKING ORDER.
